
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Gary Lane Jr., 36, died after a shooting around 3:30 a.m. Saturday on High Meadow Lane in the Steele Creek area.
Loren Funches, 30, is the person of interest.
Officers responded to an assault with deadly weapon call after neighbors heard gunshots. Police found the Lane suffering from a gunshot wound when they arrived at the scene. Lane was taken to CMC and pronounced dead by medic.
According to detectives, Lane and Funches knew each other and gunshots were a result from an altercation between the two.
Funches was detained and is cooperating with the investigation.
The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Prosecution Team, Real Time Crime Center and the Vice and Gang Unit all assisted at the scene.
CMPD’s Homicide Detectives and ADW Unit are still investigating.
