Police Stop Runaway Boat On Lake Wylie
BELMONT, NC — Gaston County Police stopped a runaway boat early Sunday morning after the driver reportedly fell out.
The call came in shortly before 9am on Sunday, July 28th. The caller reported a runaway boat on Lake Wylie in the area of Armstrong Road.
Police say the owner of the boat had fallen out, leaving it to run without an operator. Gaston County Police Marine Enforcement responded and found the 13-foot fishing boat circling out of control.

After several attempts to safely get in position, officials say an officer was able to jump on board and regain control of the craft.
The owner was not injured during the incident, and the boat was unharmed.
No other boats or property were damaged, according to police.
