
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — U.S. Attorney Anne Tompkins announces that she will be stepping down from her positive in March.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Jill Rose will fill in until a permanent replaced is nominated and confirmed by the United States Senate.
“As United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Anne Tompkins has pursued the cause of justice with passion, with integrity, and with results,” says Attorney General Eric Holder.
Tompkins released the following statement:
“It has been a great honor to serve the people of the Western District and I am grateful to President Obama for the opportunity,” said U.S. Attorney Tompkins. “For nearly five years, I’ve had the pleasure and the privilege of working with some of the brightest and most committed public servants. I have the utmost respect for their tireless dedication to the pursuit of justice. I am proud of our accomplishments and I am confident that the lawyers and staff of the Office will continue to work hard to protect the people of this district and deliver justice. ”
Tompkins was vital in prosecuting former Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon on federal corruption charges. She is also known for successfully prosecuting numerous child predators and combating human trafficking.
