Motorcyclist Dies After Colliding With Two Vehicles In Southwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The CMPD is investigating after a motorcyclist was killed following a collision in southwest Charlotte Tuesday night.

According to the CMPD, the motorcyclist was riding a 2016 Indian motorcycle, traveling east on Westinghouse Boulevard and stopped at a traffic light, preparing to turn left onto South Tryon Street just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday night.

A Chrysler 300 was traveling west on Westinghouse Boulevard and was proceeding through a green light at the intersection of South Tryon Street.  Investigators say the motorcyclist ran the red light and turned left into the path of the Chrysler 300.

The Chrysler 300 struck the motorcycle, which was knocked back into a Toyota Corolla that was stopped at the traffic light.  The Chrysler continued through the intersection before running off the road to the right and hitting a utility pole.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead on the scene.  No other injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the red light violation by the motorcyclist was the cause of the accident.  Impairment is not believed to be a factor for any of the drivers involved and no Charges have been filed.

Identification of the motorcyclist is pending notification of kin.

Any person who witnessed the crash or has information about this case is asked to call Detective Pressley at 704-432-2169 or call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
