Would You Let Strangers Watch You In Return For A $1 Hotel Room

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A hotel will let you stay for one dollar, if you let strangers watch you sleep. Would you agree? You can spend a night in the land of the rising sun for just a buck, if you let a bunch of strangers watch. The Asahi Ryokan hotel is offering one of its rooms for just a dollar per night to guests willing to be live-streamed during their stay.

The hotel’s 27-year-old owner says he got the idea when a british YouTuber guest broadcast much of his visit there. Travelers capitalizing on the offer will appear live on the YouTube channel “One Dollar Hotel.” Audio is not broadcast and you can turn the lights off.

The bathroom is also out of camera range. The hotel says nakedness in this specific room is not permitted. Which is probably only for their legal protection, not yours, as voyeurism can range from a misdemeanor to felony crime.

Merriam-Webster defines voyeurism as the practice of obtaining sexual gratification from observing others or the practice of taking pleasure in observing something private, sordid, or scandalous. Is this voyeurism, or is it just good old fashioned people watching?

If it’s people watching, which is legal, you can do plenty of that right here in Charlotte. There’s a list online of some of the best people watching places, including: Romare Bearden Park, SouthPark Mall, Common Market, or PNC Music Pavilion. Your answer to tonight’s question may depend on whether you think it’s harmless or criminal: would you let people watch you sleep?
