
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The City of Charlotte reminds residents to use extreme caution when traveling on area roads overnight tonight and tomorrow morning.
As temperatures dip below freezing overnight, standing water on roads can turn into black ice and make driving dangerous. The following is the latest safety reminders and information about city services.
Charlotte Department of Transportation (CDOT) safety reminders:
-Residents are asked to treat the sidewalks adjacent to their property.
-Black ice will reform quickly as temperatures drop.
-Motorists are cautioned about driving and the possibility of black ice forming overnight.
Solid Waste Services
-All services EXCEPT bulky item collection service are operating today. Bulky items scheduled for today should be at curbside tomorrow for collection. Those scheduled for Friday will be collected on Saturday.
-Garbage, recyclables and yard waste will be collected today as scheduled. Crews are currently out collecting.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport
-The Airport remains open and operational.
-All three parallel runways are open. Crews worked through the night plowing and clearing runways, taxiways and ramp areas. The airfield is clear and returned to normal conditions.
-Roadway conditions are reported as wet. Maintenance crews will continue monitoring and treating these areas as needed.
-Public parking lots are wet and slushy in some places. Customers are advised to use caution in these areas.
-American Airlines is resuming departures out of Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines for updated flight status before leaving for the Airport. Additional system wide aircraft activity can be found at http://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/usmap.jsp
-Security Checkpoints A, B, C and E are open.
-Approximately a dozen aircraft have been deiced today.
-The Airport will end its irregular operations plan at 3:00 pm this afternoon.
