The Cards got to the next level of play when they eliminated the Dodgers 3-2 to win their series in four games. The Giants knocked Washington out of the playoffs with a 3-2 win last night to take that series in four games as well. The Cards and Giants start the NLCS on Saturday in St. Louis.

In Los Angeles the Stanley Cup champion Kings open defense of their title with a game against Pacific Division rival San Jose, while the Maple Leafs are home to the Canadiens, the Bruins are facing the Flyers in Boston and in Calgary it’ll be the Flames against the Canucks.

The owners are also expected to approve the sale of the Buffalo Bills and look at the future of games in London.
NEW YORK (AP) β According to a poll conducted by The Associated Press and GfK, most NFL fans believe Commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL’) should keep his job after his handling of recent domestic violence cases. Only 32 percent say Goodell should lose his job over the issue, with 66 percent saying he shouldn’t.
ATLANTA (AP) β Former quarterbacks Tommie Frazier and Danny Wuerffel (WUR’-ful) are among 12 players and two coaches who were enshrined last night at the College Football Hall of Fame. The induction class also includes Heisman winners Vinny Testaverde (tehs-tah-VUR’-dee) and Wisconsin running back Ron Dayne.
