Nadal moves on in Paris
PARIS (AP) β Men’s top-seed Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’) has advanced to the quarterfinals at the French Open for the fifth straight year. The win is his 32nd straight in the tournament, and that’s a record. Nadal’s win came against Dusan Lajovic (DOH’-sahn LY’-oh-vihtch) of Serbia 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. Nadal is an eight-time French Open champion with a 63-1 record on the red clay in Paris. His only loss came in the fourth round in 2009, when he was a four-time defending champion for the first time.
Nadal will face David Ferrer (feh-REHR’), the fifth-seed, in the quarterfinals as he advanced with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 win over South African Kevin Anderson. Nadal and Ferrer met in the French Open final last year with Nadal coming out on top.

Long series ends for the Mets and Phillies tonight
UNDATED (AP) β The Mets and Phillies end a five-game series tonight in Philadelphia. The first four games were on the schedule while this evening’s contest is a make-up game from earlier in the season.
New York has won three of the first four games with the last three all going extra innings. Following back to back 14 inning affairs, yesterday’s win by the Mets took 11 frames. Adding Sunday’s time of 3 hours, 29 minutes, the first four games have taken 17 hours, 29 minutes over 48 innings. To cover all the innings the teams have employed 46 pitchers.
A pair of hot teams start a three-game series in Cleveland tonight as the Indians face the Red Sox. After dropping 10 straight, the Sox have won their last seven games while the Indians are fresh off a three-game sweep of the Rockies.
The remaining games have the Mariners playing the Yankees in New York, the Marlins at home to the Rays, Minnesota at Milwaukee, the Royals visiting St. Louis, the Dodgers hosting the White Sox and Pittsburgh at San Diego.
NBA/NHL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Basketball and hockey finals start later in the week
UNDATED (AP) β When the Los Angeles Kings finished off the Blackhawks in Chicago last night they finalized the final pairings for the NBA and NHL championship rounds.
In the NHL, the Kings will open up the Stanley Cup final this Wednesday night at home with Game 1 against the New York Rangers.
New York advanced with it eliminated Montreal in the Eastern Conference final in six games, while the Kings won the Western title with their Game 7 win last night 5-4 in overtime.
For the NBA, the Finals will feature a rematch of last year when the Heat beat the Spurs.
Miami advanced to the final round of play with a seven game elimination of the Pacers while the Spurs finished off the Thunder in six games Saturday night.
The opening game of the NBA Finals, which will start in San Antonio, will take place Thursday night.

Cleveland inks defensive back
CLEVELAND (AP) β Cleveland’s Browns have signed unrestricted free agent cornerback Aaron Berry. He had previously played for Detroit and the New York Jets and missed last season after suffering a season-ending knee injury on the first day of training camp last year. Berry appeared in 19 games and made four starts in two seasons with the Lions. He was released following arrests on DUI suspicion and assault charges.
