Wet start to another day of quarterfinal play
PARIS (AP) β It’s raining in Paris and play in the French Open has been shut down.
On the schedule today are more quarterfinal matches. On the men’s side, top-seed and defending champion Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’) is facing No. 5 David Ferrer (feh-REHR’) and seventh-seed Andy Murray is going up against No. 23 Gael Monfils (GAH’-ehl mohn-FEES’).
For the women, fourth-seed Simona Halep (HAL’-ehp) is playing No. 27 Svetlana Kuznetsova (svet-LAH’-nah kooz-NET’-so-vah) and tenth-seed Sara Errani (ehr-RAH’-nee) is facing No. 28 Andrea Petkovic.
Quarterfinal winners on Tuesday were Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich), Ernests Gulbis, Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH’-vah) and Eugenie Bouchard (boo-SHARD’).
STANLEY CUP FINALS
Kings hosting Rangers
LOS ANGELES (AP) β Hockey fans from coast to coast are all fired up for the start of the Stanley Cup final tonight. The first two games are being played in Los Angeles before the series switches to New York for Games 3 and 4.
The Kings advanced with the elimination of the Blackhawks, while the Rangers knocked out the Canadiens in the Eastern Conference.
New York comes in well rested after beating the Canadiens in six games, earning them a six-day break before the start of the championship series.
The Kings were taken to seven games by the Blackhawks before closing them out last Sunday.
The clubs met twice during the season, a 3-1 win by the Rangers in L.A. and a 1-0 victory by the Kings in New York.

Looking for another nine game winner
UNDATED (AP) β Toronto’s Mark Buehrle remains baseball’s lone 10-game winner. Tonight two pitchers, Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals and Rick Porcello of the Tigers, will attempt to get their ninth win of the season.
The Cardinals and Royals meet for the third of four games this week in Kansas City. Wainwright, who is 8-3 with a 2.32 earned run average, is squaring off against Jason Vargas.
In Detroit, Porcello and the Tigers are facing the Blue Jays in the third game of their series. Porcello is 8-2 with a 3.68 ERA, and tonight he is going up against 5-4 knuckleballer R.A. Dickey. The Jays top the American League East with a record of 35-24 while the Tigers, who have lost three straight, lead the AL Central with a mark of 31-23.
The longest winning streak in baseball belongs to Cleveland as the Indians have won five straight. Tonight they look for a sweep of the Red Sox in the third of three games between the clubs. Brandon Workman is slated to pitch for the Sox as he is appealing a six-game suspension handed down to him by baseball for allegedly throwing at a batter.
The longest losing streak is eight and it belongs to the Rays. Tonight Tampa Bay looks to get back in the win column with a home game against cross-state rival Miami. The losing streak has dropped the Rays into last place in the American League East.
The remaining games on the schedule have the Mariners playing the Braves in Atlanta, the Padres home to the Pirates, Oakland in New York to face the Yankees, the Nationals entertaining the Phillies, San Francisco at Cincinnati, the Rangers at home to the Orioles, the Mets in Chicago playing the Cubs, L.A.’s Angels at Houston, the Brewers at Minnesota, Colorado at home to the Diamondbacks and the White Sox in L.A. to play the Dodgers.
