CHARLOTTE, NC– A woman complaining of nausea, chills and a fever around 100 degrees triggered the Ebola protocol at Charlotte Douglas Friday night.
US Airways Flight 1829 from Kansas was supposed to leave Charlotte at 5:50pm for Tampa.
The flight was delayed after the crew heard about the sick woman.
State health officials say she had not been out of the country in the past three years and determined she did not have Ebola symptoms.
Passengers on flight 1829 sat on the plane for about two hours before they were allowed to board another plane and continue on to Tampa.
Charlotte City Manager Ron Carlee alerted the mayor and city council members about the illness.
Below is the complete statement from the Health Department:
On Friday, October 17, 2014 at Charlotte Douglas International Airport a passenger on a domestic US Airways flight arrived late this afternoon with a fever of approximately 100 degrees complaining of nausea and chills.
MEDIC, airport officials and Health Department officials were notified in order to ensure that all passengers were safe.
The passenger with symptoms does not meet the case definition of Ebola but in an abundance of caution was transported to Carolinas Medical Center for evaluation.
Since the passenger did not meet case definition, and no travel from West Africa was involved, the North Carolina State Health Department confirms that this was not Ebola.
