Zetterberg gives Wings much assistance
UNDATED (AP) β Henrik Zetterberg was a big help to the Detroit Red Wings on Friday.
Zetterberg assisted on each Red Wings goal in a 4-1 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto. He set up Johan Franzen’s back-to-back goals before Gustav Nyquist made it 3-0 late in the second period. Zetterberg’s four assists tied his career high reached three other times.
Nyquist also had an assist and Jimmy Howard stopped 23 shots as the Wings improved to 2-1-1. Howard blanked the Leafs until Mike Santorelli beat him 21 seconds into the third period.
Also in the NHL:
β Third-period goals by Andrew Cogliano and Corey Perry sent Anaheim past Minnesota 2-1. Frederik Andersen stopped 27 shots and was perfect after Jason Zucker scored 2:08 into the second period.
β Pekka Rinne (PEH’-kuh REE’-nay) picked up his 33rd shutout by making 31 saves in Nashville’s 2-0 whitewash at Winnipeg, spoiling the Jets’ home opener. Goals by Mike Ribeiro (rih-BEHR’-oh) and James Neal helped the Predators improve to 3-0-1.
β Matt Calvert’s second-period goal put Columbus ahead 3-0 in a 3-2 triumph against Calgary. Jake Skille (SKIH’-lee) and Ryan Johansen also scored for the 3-1 Blue Jackets.
β Florida finally won a game under new coach Gerard Gallant as Roberto Luongo (loo-AHN’-goh) turned back 26 shots and Sean Bergenheim scored his first goal of the season in a 1-0 shutout of Buffalo. Luongo has 67 career shutouts, including three straight versus the Sabres.
β Vancouver was a 2-0 winner at Edmonton as the Oilers fell to 0-4-1. Radim Vrbata (vur-BAH’-tah) scored the game-winner to back Ryan Miller, who handled 28 shots in his 29th career shutout and first as a Canuck.

Lucic of Bruins fined
NEW YORK (AP) β Boston Bruins forward Milan Lucic (LOO’-cheech) has been fined $5,000 by the NHL for making an obscene gesture at the fans in Montreal on Thursday night. Lucic taunted the crowd and then mimicked raising the Stanley Cup while entering the penalty box in Boston’s 6-4 loss to the Canadiens. Lucic has not been well-liked in Montreal since last year’s playoffs, when he threatened Dale Weise in the handshake line after the Canadiens eliminated the Bruins in seven games.
NFL-HARVIN TRADE
Seattle sends Harvin to Jets
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) β The New York Jets have pulled off a deal as they try to salvage their season following a 1-6 start.
Two people familiar with the trade tell The Associated Press the Jets have acquired Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick. Harvin is one of the NFL’s most talented receivers when healthy, but he’s managed to play just 15 of the Seahawks last 37 regular-season games due to injuries.
He had two rushes for 45 yards and ran back the second-half kickoff 87 yards for a touchdown in Seattle’s 43-8 win over Denver in the Super Bowl.
Harvin has 22 receptions for just 133 yards and no touchdowns in five games this season. He hasn’t had more than 62 catches or 677 receiving yards since 2011 with the Vikings.

Cruz plans to come back
UNDATED (AP) β Victor Cruz vows to be back next season. The Giants receiver spoke with the media for the first time since suffering a torn patellar tendon in his right knee and having surgery this week. He’s optimistic about making a full recovery. Cruz says doctors have told him it will take 4-8 months to rehab the injury.
Cruz said teammates Marcus Harris and Zack Bowman have had surgery on their patella tendons and they told him they came back “better than ever.”

β No. 1 overall draft pick Jadeveon (juh-DAY’-vee-uhn) Clowney has returned to practice and hopes to play on Monday night when Houston visits Pittsburgh. The defensive end practiced in a limited capacity for the first time since the having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee nearly six weeks ago.
β Bengals receiver A.J. Green is expected to miss his second consecutive game with an injured right big toe that has bothered him all season. He initially suffered the injury in the season opener and has aggravated it.
β The Jaguars will be without running back Toby Gerhart for a second straight week due to an ankle injury. Jacksonville faces the Cleveland Sunday.
β Chicago will be without starting linebacker Lance Briggs due to a rib injury for the second straight week. Briggs has been ruled out for Sunday’s home game against Miami after he missed practice all week.
β Miami quarterback Ryan Tannehill is probable for Sunday’s game at Chicago because of an ankle injury that briefly limited him in practice this week. Tannehill was limited Wednesday, but participated fully in practice Thursday.
β Packers cornerback Sam Shields has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against Carolina with a strained knee.
β Vikings coach Mike Zimmer underwent a “minor” medical procedure, according to the team. He’s expected back to work Saturday and will travel with the team to Buffalo to take on the Bills. The team did not disclose the nature of the procedure.
β The Browns have placed Pro Bowl center Alex Mack on injured reserve with a broken left leg, officially ending his 2014 season. Mack broke his fibula on Sunday in the win over Pittsburgh.
β The NFL has confirmed a $25,000 fine assessed to Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict for twisting an opponent’s leg twice after the play was over in Sunday’s tie against Carolina. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and tight end Greg Olsen were the victims.
β Chicago safety Ryan Mundy has been fined $22,050 for striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area in the win at Atlanta. He hit Falcons receiver Roddy White.
MLB-DODGERS
Friedman on the job
LOS ANGELES (AP) β Andrew Friedman has been introduced as the Dodgers new president of baseball operations and quickly announced that Don Mattingly will be back as manager next year.
Mattingly led the team to the NL West title this past season and has two years left on a three-year contract.
Friedman says he’s having conversations about hiring a GM to work under him.

Putnam, Knox share lead
LAS VEGAS (AP) β Andrew Putnam birdied two of the last three holes for a 6-under 65 and a share of the second-round lead with Russell Knox in the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open.
Putnam is at 10-under at the midway mark of his fourth PGA Tour event. Knox had six birdies and two bogeys in a 4-under 67.
Andrew Svoboda and Tony Finau are a stroke back. Defending champion Webb Simpson topped the group at 8 under after a 65.

Haas, Durant share lead
CONOVER, N.C. (AP) β Jay Haas and Joe Durant are co-leaders in the Champions Tour’s Greater Hickory Kia Classic after opening with 8-under 63s.
The 60-year-old Haas had an eagle and seven birdies on the first 14 holes at Rock Barn Golf and Spa’s Champions Course in Conover, North Carolina. Durant played his last nine holes at minus-7 for a share of the lead, one stroke ahead of Roger Chapman and Scott Dunlap.

South Koreans Bae, Baek share lead after 3rd round at LPGA tournament in South Korea
INCHEON, South Korea (AP) β South Korean duo Hee Kyung Bae and Kyu Jung Baek both shot a 4-under 68 to take a share of the lead after the third round of the LPGA’s KEB-HanaBank Championship on Saturday.
Bae birdied five holes after the turn on the Ocean Course at the Sky72 Golf Club, while Baek had six birdies to go with two bogeys.
Both were at 5-under 211 overall, one stroke ahead of a large group that includes No. 2-ranked Inbee Park, Suzann Pettersen of Norway and overnight leader Karine Icher (kuh-REEN’ EE’-shur) of France, who only managed a 73.

Yanks blank Guatemala
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) β The US is 2-0 in the CONCACAF (KAHN’-kah-kaf) Women’s Championship following a 5-0 rout of Guatemala in Illinois.
Tobin Heath scored twice for the Americans, who finished the game without Alex Morgan after she turned her ankle in the 37th minute. Hope Solo didn’t need to make a single save in route to her 75th career shutout.
