CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Hornets Venom GT, with Gamers vs. Cancer, say they will hold a 24-hour charity streaming event on Friday, September 4th to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
The gaming event will mark the beginning of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and will be broadcast live on Twitch, according to a news release.
“We are excited for our Hornets Venom GT players to have an opportunity to get involved in this important cause,” said Hornets Sports & Entertainment Senior Director of Corporate Social Responsibility Betsy Mack. “Coming off a successful inaugural season, the team and our organization are glad to show our support for children fighting cancer and for the American Cancer Society.”
Hornet Venom GT players say they will show off their skills on the newly-released NBA 2k21 in the Neighborhood/Park game mode during the fundraiser.
“The American Cancer Society takes a comprehensive approach to combatting childhood cancer by funding research and advocating for government policies that include making it easier for all children to get quality care and providing support for patients and their families. We’re grateful for the support of Hornets Venom GT because both of our organizations recognize gaming as a potential force for good,” said Felisha Fletcher, Senior Manager of Community Development for the American Cancer Society in Charlotte.
The gaming charity event will go from midnight to 11:59 p.m. on September 4th, and viewers can click here to donate.
“The gaming community continues to make cancer awareness and patient support a priority, even when faced with the challenges of COVID-19. Whether you’re a professional or amateur gamer, you can take part in our mission to save lives by taking part in a livestream fundraiser,” said Maya Alostaz from Gamers vs Cancer.
