CHARLOTTE, NC — Dozens of dogs rescued from a suspected puppy mill in Rutherford County are waking up cleaner and healthier in Charlotte. Humane Society workers sedated nearly 56 dogs to shave off matted hair. The dogs were also tested for parasites, heartworms and skin infections. Some of the dogs have eye problems, ear infections and skin infections.
“Just this ball of fur, and then after 45 minutes, it’s a totally different dog,” said Humane Society of Charlotte VP of Operations Jorge Ortega. “It’s like a dog that was kept in a cocoon and then, you know, it’s a different dog. So total transformation.”
The rescued dogs include English bulldogs, yorkies, cocker spaniels, French bulldogs and shih tzus. The Humane Society hopes to get most of the dogs ready for adoption soon.
