Deputies: Alexander County Man Charged With Secret Peeping, Indecent Liberties With A Child

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Detectives with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office say Michael Childers faces additional charges after cameras was found in the staff bathrooms at Wittenburg Elementary School and Ellendale Elementary School on December 1st, 2020.

Investigators say Childers, already facing multiple charges for peeping and indecent liberties with a child during his time as a Walmart employee, faces more charges for his involvement in putting secret cameras in these staff bathrooms.

Officials say Childers was employed as a custodian at both schools, and his indecent liberties with a child charges are not connected to his time at the schools.

Currently there is no evidence that underage students were recorded by Childers at school, according to a news release.

Detectives say on March 5th Childers was additionally charged with five counts of felony secret peeping and five counts of felony possession of secret peeping material.

Childers was given another secured bond of $100,000, bringing his total bond amount to $1,350,000, and he is scheduled to appear in Alexander County District Court on Monday, March 8th.

TAYLORSVILLE, N.C. — Deputies with the Taylorsville Police Department and Alexander County Police Sheriff’s Office say Michael Childers, 32, is under arrest for secret peeping and indecent liberties with a child.

The Taylorsville Police Department charged Childers with 53 counts of felony secret peeping and nine counts of felony indecent liberties with a minor.

The Alexander County Sheriff’s Office charged Childers with 55 counts of felony possession of secret peeping material and two counts of felony secret peeping after receiving a video that was taken at a home in Alexander County.

Deputies say numerous videos were found in Childers’ possession from 2016 to 2019 when he was an employee of Walmart in the ongoing investigation initiated by Wittenburg Elementary School that started in December of 2020.

Police say Childers is currently being held at the Alexander County Detention Center under a $1.25 million dollar secured bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday, March 8th in Alexander County District Court.

Detectives say the investigation remains active and ongoing.
