Auburn tops Ole Miss…Knight moves
UNDATED (AP) β Mississippi was one of the top four teams in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s first-ever ranking on Tuesday. That’s likely to change this Tuesday.
Fourth-ranked Auburn took advantage of a late fumble and outlasted No. 7 Ole Miss 35-31. The Rebels were driving for a go-ahead touchdown until Laquon Treadwell fumbled at the goal line with 1:30 remaining following a 19-yard reception. Treadwell was injured during the fumble after catching 10 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown.
Tigers quarterback Nick Marshall completed 15 of his 22 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns. Marshall also ran for 50 yards and two TDs, and Cameron Artis-Payne had 138 yards and 27 carries. Artis-Payne scored on a six-yard run with 10:23 remaining to put Auburn ahead to stay.
Oregon could replace Mississippi among the top four in the CFP ranking after the fifth-ranked Ducks clobbered Stanford 45-16. Marcus Mariota (mar-ee-OH’-tah) threw for 258 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores. Thomas Tyner’s two TDs helped the Ducks become the first team to score more than 30 points against Stanford in 32 games.

β Dak Prescott threw for a career-high 331 yards and a touchdown to help No. 1 Mississippi State beat Arkansas 17-10. The 8-0 Bulldogs trailed in the third quarter and didn’t take the lead until Prescott’s 69-yard touchdown pass to Fred Ross with 13:21 to play.
β Everett Golson threw for three touchdowns and ran for three scores to help sixth-ranked Notre Dame beat Navy 49-39. The Midshipmen made things interesting by scoring 24 straight points to move ahead 31-28 with four minutes left in the third quarter.
β Jaden Oberkrom kicked a 37-yard field goal as time expired to give the 10th-ranked TCU a 31-30 victory over No. 20 West Virginia. B.J. Catalon had a pair of second-half touchdown runs for TCU, including a 6-yarder with 7:33 left that cut it to 30-28. He finished with 105 yards.
β Jake Waters threw two touchdown passes and Charles Jones ran for a pair of scores to carry No. 11 Kansas State’s offense in a 48-14 pounding of Oklahoma State. Curry Sexton had nine catches for 159 yards and a touchdown, and Tyler Lockett had six receptions for 94 yards and a score for the 7-1 Wildcats.
β Florida shocked ninth-ranked Georgia 38-20 as Matt Jones and Kelvin Taylor combined for 389 yards rushing and four touchdowns. The Gators finished with 418 yards rushing and ended a three-game skid.
β Bryce Petty threw two of his three touchdown passes to Corey Coleman and No. 12 Baylor scored on 11 straight possessions in a 60-14 rout of Kansas. Coleman had a career-high 167 yards receiving and TDs of 72 and 49 yards, the latter putting the Bears up 46-7 early in the third quarter.
β Curtis Samuel ran for two touchdowns and J.T. Barrett hit Devin Smith on two scoring passes, all while 13th-rated Ohio State was building a 31-0 halftime lead in a 55-14 laugher against Illinois. The 7-1 Buckeyes will take a six-game winning streak into next Saturday’s game at Michigan State.
β Brett Hundley threw for 189 yards and ran for 131 yards on 24 carries as 25th-rated UCLA downed No. 14 Arizona 17-7. Hundley was 19 of 26 through the air, including a 70-yard scoring pass to Jordan Payton in the third quarter.
β Zane Gonzalez kicked a 36-yard field goal in overtime and No. 15 Arizona State overcame an uneven performance to take control of the Pac-12 South with a 19-16 victory over No. 18 Utah on Saturday night.
β Imani Cross rushed for a pair of TDs and Tommy Armstrong Jr. ran for 70 yards and a touchdown as 17th-rated Nebraska whipped Purdue 35-14. Cross and Armstrong propped up the Cornhuskers’ running game after Heisman Trophy hopeful Ameer Abdullah left the game with a mild left knee sprain.
β Trevor Knight became the first FBS player to throw for three touchdowns and run for three more in a game this season, leading 19th-ranked Oklahoma to a 59-14 pounding of the Sooners’ 59-14 pounding of Iowa State. Knight threw for 230 yards and finished with a career-high 146 yards rushing on 16 carries, hours before Notre Dame’s Everett Golson became the second player with three rushing TDs and three passing TDs in the same game this year.
β Kenny Harper rushed for two short touchdowns and Tavon Young returned a fumble 63 yards for a touchdown to help Temple overcome its sluggish offense in a 20-10 win over No. 23 East Carolina. Temple forced five fumbles in beating a ranked opponent for the first time in 16 years.
β Thomas Sirk scored on a five-yard run in double-overtime to lift No. 24 Duke past Pittsburgh 51-48. Anthony Boone completed 23 of his 31 passes for 266 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions to help the Blue Devils improve to 7-1 overall.

Heat struggle before downing Sixers
UNDATED (AP) β The Miami Heat are now 2-for-2 on the young NBA season after beating a team that’s expected to compete for the top pick in next year’s draft.
Chris Bosh had 30 points and eight rebounds to lead the Heat past the 76ers 111-96 in Philadelphia. Mario Chalmers added 18 points and Dwyane (dwayn) Wade chipped in nine points and 10 assists.
The Sixers actually went ahead 82-20 in the third quarter before dropping to 0-3.

β Klay Thompson poured in 41 points and Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry added 31 and 10 assists to lead Golden State’s 127-104 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.
β James Harden had 26 points and eight rebounds, while Terrence Jones added 25 points and 10 boards in Houston’s 104-90 dismantling of Boston.
β Oklahoma City has its first victory after Perry Jones and Serge Ibaka (ih-BAH’-kah) each scored 23 points to lead a 102-91 win over Denver.
β Jimmy Butler capped his 24-point performance by draining two free throws with 0.2 seconds left to push Chicago past Minnesota 106-105.
β Marc Gasol (gah-SAHL’) scored 22 points and Zach Randolph added 12 points and 12 rebounds as Memphis downed Charlotte 71-69 to improve to 3-0 for the first time in franchise history.

Thunder say Westbrook out at least a month
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) β The Oklahoma City Thunder say point guard Russell Westbrook will miss at least a month with a broken right hand.
The team said in a news release that Westbrook had successful surgery this morning and will be re-evaluated in four weeks. The three-time All-Star was injured during the second quarter of Thursday’s 93-90 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers.
Westbrook was expected to carry more of the load while Kevin Durant sits out for at least a month with a broken right foot.

Pens blank Sabres
UNDATED (AP) β The Pittsburgh Penguins are the latest team to blank the Buffalo Sabres.
The Sabres were shut out for the fifth time in their last eight games as Marc-Andre Fleury made just 18 saves in the Penguins’ 5-0 win over Buffalo. Fleury picked up his third shutout of the season and 31st of his career.
Chris Kunitz (KOO’-nihts) had two goals and an assist, Evgeni Malkin had a goal and two assists and Sidney Crosby set up three goals as the Pens earned their fifth straight win.

β James Reimer turned back 45 shots and Peter Holland scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period of Toronto’s 3-2 triumph over Chicago.

Hoosier struck by car driven by teammate
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) β Indiana University says basketball player Devin Davis is in serious condition after being hit by a car driven by teammate Emmitt Holt.
Bloomington police say Davis suffered a serious head injury when he walked into the road and was struck by the vehicle early Saturday morning. A police spokesperson says Holt was driving away when Davis suddenly entered the roadway for unknown reasons and collided with the vehicle. Police found Davis unconscious with a head injury.
Police say Holt was cited for illegal consumption and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content above 0.02.
MLB-PLAYER MOVES
Jays send Lind to Brewers
UNDATED (AP) β The Toronto Blue Jays have shipped first baseman Adam Lind to the Milwaukee Brewers for right-hander Marco Estrada, who was 7-6 with a 4.36 ERA in 18 starts and 21 relief appearances this year. The 31-year-old Lind hit .321 with six homers and 40 RBIs in 96 games last season, missing extensive time with a back injury and an injured right foot. He has a .273 career average with 146 homers and 519 RBIs.

β The Royals have declined their 2015 contract option on Billy Butler, making the former All-Star designated hitter a free agent for the first time in his eight-year career. Butler was an All-Star two years ago but hit just .271 with nine homers and 66 RBIs this season, far below his career averages.
β The Dodgers have declined a $14 million option on pitcher Chad Billingsley and bought out the right-hander for $3 million. Billingsley didn’t pitch last season following surgery to repair a partially-torn flexor tendon. He was 81-61 with a 3.65 ERA for the Dodgers.
β The Colorado Rockies declined left-handed starter Brett Anderson’s $12 million option for next season.

Philbin back with team
DAVIE, Fla. (AP) β Miami Dolphins head coach Joe Philbin has returned to work following the death of his father. Philbin missed two days of practice to be with his father, who died Friday night in Massachusetts. The Dolphins are back in playoff contention after winning their last two games to improve to 4-3 heading into tomorrow’s class with San Diego.

Bayern captures Breeders’ Cup Classic
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) β After further review, Bayern is the winner of the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Bayern outraced Toast of New York and won the race by a nose, then survived a stewards’ inquiry prompted by multiple horses bumping near the starting gate.
Bayern ran 1 1/4 miles in 1:59.88 and paid $14.20, $8 and $5.20 at 6-1 odds.
Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner California Chrome was another neck back in third and paid $5.40 to show.

Perry, Pernice share Schwab lead through 54
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) β Kenny Perry and Tom Pernice Jr. (pur-NEES’) share the lead through three rounds of the Champions Tour’s season-ending Charles Schwab Cup championship in Arizona. Perry shot a 2-under 68, and Pernice had a 70 to finish at 8-under 202 on Desert Mountain’s Cochise Course. They are one shot ahead of second-round leader Jay Haas, who followed Friday’s 62 with a 5-over 75.

Moore defends CIMB Classic title, wins by 3 shots
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) β Ryan Moore successfully defended his CIMB Classic title, shooting a 5-under 67 on Sunday for a three-stroke win over fellow American Gary Woodland for the second straight year.
Moore finished on 17-under 271 to become the first player to defend a title on the PGA Tour since 2013.
Sergio Garcia and Kevin Na shared a three-way tie for second with Woodland.
Woodland three-putted the last hole for a 67, reducing pressure on Moore as he claimed his fourth PGA Tour title.
Na led by two strokes early and was within a shot with two holes to play, but his hopes ended when he drove into a treetop on the 17th and took a double bogey.
Garcia did the same on the 10th hole and finished with a 69.
BMW MASTERS
Siem chips in to win BMW Masters playoff
SHANGHAI (AP) β Marcel Siem chipped in for birdie from the collar on the 18th green to win the BMW Masters on Sunday in a playoff against Alexander Levy and Ross Fisher.
Siem had a chance to win in regulation with an 8-foot par putt that he missed badly. He closed with a 73.
Levy had a four-shot lead going into the final round at Lake Malaren in Shanghai. He could not hold up in the 25 mph wind that made an easy week suddenly turn difficult. Levy closed with a 78.
Fisher had a chance for the greatest comeback in European Tour history. He was 11 shots behind going into Sunday and shot 67.
Siem was the only player who did not hit the 18th green in the playoff. He wound up a winner.

Top-ranked Inbee Park wins LPGA Taiwan
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) β Inbee Park won the LPGA Taiwan Championship on Sunday for her third victory of the year and 12th career title, holding off Stacy Lewis by two strokes at Miramar.
Six days after regaining the No. 1 spot in the world from Lewis, the South Korean newlywed closed with a 1-under 71 in light rain to finish at 22-under 266.
Park opened with rounds of 64, 62 and 69 to take a four-stroke lead over Lewis and China’s Shanshan Feng into the final round. The second-ranked Lewis, also a three-time winner this year, shot a 69.
Park won the Manulife Financial LPGA in June in Canada and took the LPGA Championship in August for her fifth major title. Last year, she swept the first three majors and won six times.

Rosberg takes pole
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) β Nico Rosberg has earned a chance to tighten the Formula One championship duel with Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton by winning the pole position for Sunday’s U.S. Grand Prix.
Rosberg edged Hamilton by .376 seconds at the Circuit of the Americas. Valtteri Bottas will start third.
Hamilton leads Rosberg by 17 points in the drivers’ championship with three races left.
