ROCK HILL, S.C. — Two firefighters were injured while battling a house fire in York County. Deputies say Newport Volunteer firefighters were responding to a structure fire on Volunteer Drive around 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

The house was fully engulfed by flames and heavy smoke was showing from the area when emergency officials arrived.  A brick wall collapsed on the firefighters.  One firefighter suffered a broken leg.

The firefighters were taken to Piedmont Medical Center for treatment. One of the firefighters was later flown to Carolinas Medical Center.

The homeowners sister tells WCCB Charlotte she’s just happy everyone survived.

“Just be faithful,” she said.  “You can always replace things, but you can’t replace anybody’s lives.”

The flames destroyed the home.  Investigators believe a water heater may have sparked the fire.
