CHARLOTTE, NC — The Supreme Court may be forced to get involved in the legal battle over same-sex marriage. The U.S. Appeals Court ruled Thursday in favor of same-sex marriage bans in four states.
The unions are now illegal in Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The split among appeals courts almost guarantees a review of the issue by the Supreme Court.
Magistrates in North Carolina have to marry gay couples, or face losing their jobs. The Chief Administrator of the courts says there is no federal law or rulings that would exempt them because of religious beliefs against the marriages.
