Rain and Storms Move in Ahead of Holiday Weekend
AM Headlines:
- TS Elsa forms in the Atlantic
- Earliest 5th named storm on record in the Atlantic Basin
- Scattered to widespread rain/storms return tonight – Friday
- Slightly cooler, but dry for the holiday weekend
Discussion:
It’s going to be another steamy day with temps soaring into the lower 90s this afternoon. Scattered to widespread storms will stretch into the region tonight through Friday ahead of a cold front. The good news is that we will be drying out for Saturday and Sunday for any 4th of July plans. Highs will be cooler, reaching the mid to upper 80s this weekend. Fireworks viewing will be great with clear skies both Saturday and Sunday evenings. Highs will climb back into the low 90s by next week.
Tropical Storm Elsa
Elsa has formed in the Atlantic and is a record-breaking storm – the earliest 5th named storm on record in the Atlantic basin. This breaks a record set just last year by Edouard that formed July 6. On average the 5th named storm typically does not form until August 31. Tropical storm warnings are in place for the Windward Islands. Up to 8 inches of rain will be possible for the islands, including Barbados. This storm is forecast to strengthen slightly and will be near South Florida by early next week.
Have a great Friday Eve!
