Lightning Injures 7 People On Grandfather Mountain

AVERY CO., N.C. — A lightning strike injured 7 people on Grandfather Mountain on Friday, according to emergency management services.

The National Weather Service confirmed as a thunderstorm moved across the area, a lightning strike injured those who were atop MacRae Peak in Banner Elk around 12 p.m.

One person fell, resulting in a head injury, and was airlifted to nearby hospital following the strike.

Another person suffered burns from the lightning, but officials say the rest of the group only suffered minor injuries.
