A Tropical Weather Pattern Will Mean A Wet And Stormy Week Ahead
A cold front will move into the area from the north and will stall across our region on Sunday. This will bring cooler temperatures and continue our threat for showers and some thunderstorms. Rain may be heavy at times which could lead to some flooding in flood prone areas of the Piedmont and mountains. There will also be the potential for some landslides in the mountains due to the excessive rain. The remnants of Fred will only increase the tropical moisture across our area into the second half of the week.
The Tropics:
Fred has weakened below a tropical depression status, but it is forecast to gain strength again, in the Gulf of Mexico and become a tropical storm again before making landfall near the Mississippi and Alabama border. Landfall is expected late Monday night into Tuesday. Behind Fred is Tropical Storm Grace which is forecast to move in the same general direction as Fred, just a little further north. The latest guidance has Grace moving into the Gulf of Mexico by Thursday. Keep checking back with us for the latest forecast track of both systems.
