Rain Chances Ship Out, Heat Remains

Fall may be only a month away, but the summertime highs are here to stay.

Happy Friday! Scattered pop-up showers and storms have played a big role in our forecast recently, but rain chances will take a backseat heading into the weekend. A mainly stable air mass will set up shop across the Carolinas for our Saturday and Sunday, allowing for plentiful sunshine and temperatures near average across the board. While a very stray shower or storm is possible this weekend, the vast majority of the WCCB Charlotte viewing area will remain dry. Winds out of the north and east will keep temperatures from getting too hot for the time being, but a shift to the south and west could put the Piedmont back in the mid-90s by next week.

Henri remains a tropical storm a few hundred miles to our southeast, but is expected to strengthen into a hurricane as it makes a close approach to the Carolina coastline this weekend. While impacts remain minimal across the Palmetto and Tar Heel states, a high rip current risk will continue into early next week. Hurricane Grace, meanwhile, should make landfall in southern Mexico as a Category 2 before dissipating over the rugged mainland.
