Rowan-Salisbury Schools Extend Mask Mandate; More Than 3,000 Students in Quarantine

SALISBURY, N.C. – There are growing concerns about the number of COVID cases impacting local schools.

The Rowan-Salisbury School System is extending its mask mandate.

The school board voted 4-2 on Monday to continue requiring masks through at least October 11th.

282 students there have tested positive for COVID, as of Friday. And more than 3,000 students are in quarantine.

The district was one of the first in our area to return to the classroom, beginning the school year with voluntary masking, then mandating them a week later.

Meantime, 52 employees have tested positive, with nearly 150 in quarantine.

So many teachers are quarantined, that administrators and staff from the district’s central office are now teaching classes.
