Police: Suspect Involved In Mount Tabor High School Shooting Taken Into Custody

Police say the suspect accused of shooting and killing a student at Mount Tabor High School on Wednesday has been identified and taken into custody.

The suspect was found several hours after the shooting, according to officers.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office identified the student who died in the shooting as William Chavis Raynard Miller Jr.

Police encourage the community to pray for his family and loved ones.

School officials say Mount Tabor High School will be closed on Thursday, September 2nd, as counselors and members of the Crisis Team make themselves available at an offsite location for parents, students, and staff.

Members of the Winston Salem Police Department held a news conference on Wednesday after a student was killed in a shooting at Mount Tabor High School.

Police say the shooting suspect has not been identified, but is believed to be a student.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One Winston-Salem high school student was injured in a shooting Wednesday and authorities are looking for the suspect, according to police.

Police tweeted around 1 p.m. that Mount Tabor High School was been put on lockdown due to an active shooter situation.

“There has been a shooting on school property. We and the WSPD have secured the campus and are doing everything possible to keep students safe. We are actively investigating what happened and will share confirmed information when available,” according to the City of Winston-Salem Police.

Authorities have not released any information on anyone being hurt during the reported shooting. According to news reports, police responded to the scene after a call to service around 12 p.m.

Winston-Salem city officials have asked parent to stay away from the school. Parents have been asked to wait at a nearby Harris Teeter Shopping Center on Peace Haven Road for further instructions.
