Sun and clouds with cooler conditions Friday

We’re keeping an eye on a storm system moving across the Deep South that’s bringing some much heavier rain to places along the Gulf Coast and parts of Texas. As it heads toward the Carolinas, though, it’s going to run into a cooler, drier air mass that’s already sitting over us. That’s basically going to lock us into a cloudy, cool pattern heading into tonight and Friday, with highs stuck in the upper 60s and low 70s. Saturday, expect rain starting very early into the afternoon. Temperatures will struggle to get out of the upper 50s to near 60 degrees, and with a cool northeast breeze, it’s going to feel even chillier.

Hurricane Sally Unleashes Flooding Along The Gulf Coast

Hurricane Sally lumbered ashore near the Florida-Alabama line Wednesday with 105 mph (165) winds and rain measured in feet, not inches, swamping homes and trapping people in high water as it crept inland for what could be a long, slow and disastrous drenching across the Deep South.

Duke Energy Lowering Lakes To Prepare For Heavy Rainfall From Hurricane Sally

Heavy rain from Hurricane Sally is forecast across the Carolinas this week, which will result in higher lake and river levels across the Nantahala, Catawba, Yadkin and Keowee-Toxaway river basins. To prepare for the storm, Duke Energy is lowering lake levels by aggressively moving water through these river systems.
