ATLANTA (AP) — Cleveland grabbed the opening game of the NBA’s Eastern Conference final last night, beating the Hawks in Atlanta 97-89. The Hawks and their fans are holding their collective breath until they get the results of an MRI being done today on DeMarre (deh-MAHR’-ay) Carroll. The team’s leading scorer in the postseason and best defender crashed to the floor in agony last night with an injured left knee.

CHICAGO (AP) —The second game of the NHL’s Western Conference final is tonight in Chicago. The Blackhawks and Ducks split the first two games in Anaheim, setting the stage for tonight’s game. The fourth contest will be in Chicago Saturday night.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay took a 2-1 series lead over New York in their NHL Eastern Conference final last night. Nikita Kucherov (KOO’-cheh-rawf) scored 3:33 into overtime to give the Lightning a 6-5 victory over the visiting Rangers. Tampa Bay hosts Game 4 Friday.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — For the third time this season, two of the top pitchers in the game are facing off today in San Francisco. On the mound for the World Champion Giants is Madison Bumgarner, while the arch-rival Dodgers send Clayton Kershaw. Neither was involved in the decision in their first meeting while Bumgarner got the win over Kershaw in a 2-1 victory in their second encounter.
