Testimony wraps up for day in Diamond’s bar fight

PORT WASHINGTON, Wis. (AP) — Testimony has wrapped up for the day in the trial of television actor Dustin Diamond, who is accused of stabbing a man during a bar fight in Wisconsin after a woman punched his girlfriend.

The 38-year-old Diamond, who played Screech in the 1990s show “Saved by the Bell,” has pleaded not guilty to recklessly endangering public safety. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years in prison.

On Thursday, 25-year-old Bethany Ward testified that she punched Diamond’s girlfriend, Amanda Schutz, after an altercation at the bar in December. Ward says she didn’t see Diamond pull a knife, but heard someone shouting that he had.

The victim, Casey Smet, also testified, saying he didn’t know he’d been stabbed until he left the bar.

Defense attorneys maintain that no one saw Diamond stab Smet.
