911 Calls Reveal Moments Before, After Business Owner Shot Suspect
CHARLOTTE, NC — Newly released 911 calls reveal what a Charlotte business owner told a dispatcher before he shot and killed a suspected burglar.
That business owner is charged with voluntary manslaughter.
“He just ran out the store, ran at me. I shot at him like 3 or 4 times. I think I may have hit him,” Alan Corder told the 911 dispatcher.
He’s talking about shooting Justin Anderson.
Anderson’s family heard it for the first time today.
“The 911 tapes are hard to listen to for the family because it’s just providing a little more insight into what happened right before their loved one died,” said Justin Bamberg.
Bamberg is the Anderson family attorney.
He admits that Anderson was at the American Beauty Garden Center on Independence Blvd. breaking in after hours.
Corder, the owner, called 911 when got the alarm alert on his phone.
He told the dispatcher he was driving there.

The dispatcher warned him, “I am advising you that it would be best for you to wait for the police to get there and not to approach the building until they get there, to identify yourself.”
Corder is heard on the 911 call saying, “We’ll see what happens when I get there.”
Less than five minutes later, Corder calls back saying he shot when the intruder ran out.
“I pulled up in front of the building. He came running out the door straight at me,” said Corder.
Former Union County District Attorney heard the recordings. “You’ve got him saying he ran right at me. That might be enough for reasonable doubt,” said Snyder.
On the other hand, he says Corder ran toward the threat.
“You can’t then go hide behind self defense when you’ve been instructed by law enforcement,” said Snyder.
Corder’s attorney, George Laughrun, did not want to talk about the 911 calls.
He fought in court to keep the calls sealed to prevent public opinion.
Legal analysts say with no prior charges, Corder could avoid jail time and get probation.
