CMPD: Missing 19-Year-Old Girl With Special Needs Found Safe

CMPD says they have located 19-year-old Leah Kelley, who was reported missing Thursday morning.

Police say Kelley briefly returned home on her own early Thursday evening, but immediately left again. Officers then found her walking on S. Tryon Street near Carowinds Boulevard around 6pm.

Kelley was uninjured.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A search is underway for a 19-year-old girl with special needs who went missing in northwest Charlotte on Thursday.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department say Leah L’Shae Kelley left her home on Savannah Creek Drive in the Steele Creek area around 12:30 a.m. after having an argument with her mother.

Police say Kelley was showing signs of mental distress in her home and damaging property in her bedroom when her mother called 911 asking for police assistance.

Before officers arrived, Kelley ran out the back door of her house. It is unknown if she got dressed before leaving on foot.

Kelley is 5’9″ and weighs 130 pounds. The girl was last seen wearing a bra and panties.

Kelley frequently visits the Walmart located at 8180 S. Tryon St. and gas stations in the area.

Anyone who knows anything about Leah Kelley or where she might be is asked to call 911 immediately.
