KANNAPOLIS, N.C. – A Kannapolis man has died following a collision with a fire truck on Tuesday afternoon.
Tyrell Carlton, 29, of Captains Watch Road, was taken to Atrium-Northeast, where he died from his injuries.
According to officials, Mr. Carlton was driving a Mazada Protégé when it crossed the centerline and struck a Kannapolis fire engine.
The driver of the Kannapolis fire engine said he saw the car crossing the line and tried to stop, but could not avoid the vehicle.
Kannapolis Police say speed was not a factor in the crash, but Mr. Carlton may have reached for something in the back of the vehicle or suffered from a medical event. He was the only person in the car and was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
Four firefighters were also taken to Atrium-Northeast, where they were treated for minor injuries.
