Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Awarded National Accreditation

CHARLOTTE– Officials from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s office were awarded national accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) on Saturday, April 2.

Following several years of quality assessments in community engagement, policies, procedures, and many more requirements, CALEA held a conference for formal review and awarded officers at the Mecklenburg County Sheriffs’ department.

Sheriff Garry McFadden, Chief Rodney Collins, and Sergeant Johnathan Whitmore were commemorated for their excellence in public safety and their commitment to the community.

The accreditation includes various benefits such as community advocacy and increased government support.

Sheriff McFadden proudly states, “As Sheriff, this is truly an honor and testament of the standard of excellence set by
MCSO. Now that we have acquired this accreditation, we will be awarded what’s known as The Triple Crown
Award, recognizing sheriff’s offices that achieve simultaneous accreditation from the CALEA, ACA and NCCHC.
Only two of 100 sheriff’s offices in North Carolina have received this distinct honor, Durham and New Hanover,
now Mecklenburg will be added to the list.”
