EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) β€” Veteran guard Chris Snee is calling it quits and retiring from the New York Giants. He has had two hip surgeries and is now troubled by right elbow and wrist problems. Snee is a 10-year pro who sat out minicamp last month but had indicated he expected to play this season.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) β€” Coming off the bench, veteran Matt Bonner has been a key contributor to the NBA champion San Antonio Spurs. The club has announced it has worked out a deal to bring Bonner back after he shot 42.9 percent from 3-point range. Bonner ranks third in franchise history in 3-pointers made and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage.

UNDATED (AP) β€” The Chicago Bulls have re-signed guard Kirk Hinrich (HYN’-rihk). A person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press that the two-year deal will pay him $2.7 million next season. Hinrich, who has spent nine of his 11 seasons with the Bulls, averaged 9.1 points and 3.9 assists in 73 games last season.

UNDATED (AP) β€” Today was a day off for the world’s best cyclists. The winner of the 15th stage of the Tour de France yesterday was Alexander Kristoff of Norway. The overall leader continues to Italy’s Vincenzo Nibali. The race resumes tomorrow and ends this Sunday.

UNDATED (AP) β€” Rory McIlroy is still celebrating his big win yesterday in the British Open. The victory gives the 25-year old three major championships now, leaving just the Masters. That means if he were to win in Augusta, Georgia, next year he would become just the sixth player to complete the career Grand Slam.
