CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are searching for a man who was nude in his driveway in East Charlotte Wednesday morning.

The house sits in front of a school bus stop at East WT Harris Blvd. Thursday, parents were quick to pick up their children, and neighbors were horrified after hearing of the man next door masturbating in the street.

“I’m furious,” said Bernice McCallum. “You never know who’s going to walk down the street, especially a little child.”

McCallum’s children have to walk past the home where the man lives at 6:45 Wednesday morning. It was minutes after that time that a neighbor, remaining anonymous, called police after seeing a nude man masturbating near the edge of the driveway. She isn’t sure if the children saw it, but parents are just as concerned.

“I’m just horrified by it, and something needs to be done,” said McCallum.

The Parker House Foundation leases the home at East WT Harris Blvd and Grove Park Boulevard. It’s described online as a transition program for at-risk veterans and the homeless.

The suspected nude man’s housemates say he just moved in this week.

Carlos Williams wouldn’t reveal the man’s name, but says no one, not even the man’s case worker, has seen him since Wednesday.

“It was extremely obvious this guy had a mental problem. As far as I’m concerned he should have been in the hospital,” said Williams. “All this guy did was sit around and talk to hisself all day.”

The Foundation owner, Grady Parker, didn’t return messages to comment.

“We apologize something like this happened,” said Williams. “I have children myself, and I don’t want nothing like that around my kids. But, I do want the moms in this neighborhood to know the guys here, we don’t do nothing like that.”

Police say this is the first indecent exposure incident at this address. They aren’t releasing the suspect’s name at this point.

“Everybody deserves a second chance, and I hope they do get their self together,” said McCallum, “But, we don’t want to see that on this street.”
