GENEVA (AP) β€” The International Cycling Union has agreed to a fast-track appeal at sport’s highest court for Roman Kreuziger, who wants his provisional ban for suspected doping lifted before the Spanish Vuelta.

The UCI says it will cooperate on “an expedited proceeding that should allow CAS to decide the appeal before” the three-week race starts Aug. 23.

Kreuziger was provisionally suspended Saturday without ever testing positive.

Cycling’s governing body acted before the Tinkoff-Saxo rider’s scheduled Tour of Poland start after long-term analysis of his blood values suggested doping in 2012.

The Czech Republic rider claimed Tuesday that the UCI broke its anti-doping rules by suspending him before opening a formal disciplinary case.

The UCI declined comment on “various statements by the rider and his team as to the merits of the case.”
