ATLANTA, GA — A Charlotte missionary being treated for the ebola virus is showing signs of improvement Wednesday night. Doctors at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta say Nancy Writebol is eating and speaking more.
She and her colleague Dr. Kent Brantly are both being treated in an isolation unit. They contracted the deadly virus while working in Liberia and are the first two known cases to be treated in America.
In a statement to WCCB Charlotte, Nancy Writebol’s son Jeremy says, “We are grateful to be able to see our mom once again.” He goes on to say, “We were able to spend a few minutes with her to encourage her and be encouraged by her condition.”
President Obama is promising the United States will do whatever it can to help Africa battle the Ebola outbreak. The virus has now killed 932 people. There are 1,700 cases worldwide. 108 of them were reported between Saturday and Monday.
