Buckeyes and Ducks set to go
UNDATED (AP) β The scene is set for the major college football championship game. The contest between Ohio State and Oregon will take place a week from this coming Monday in AT&T Stadium, the home of the Dallas Cowboys, in Arlington, Texas.
The Ducks of Oregon earned the right to play in the title game with a resounding 59-20 win over previously unbeaten Florida State in the Rose Bowl Thursday, while the Buckeyes got their ticket punched with an impressive 42-35 win over top seed Alabama.
The game pairs the Pac 10 champs, Oregon, against Big Ten champion Ohio State. Each team enters the game with a record of 13-1. They last met in the 2010 Rose Bowl with Ohio State coming out on top 26-17. The early odds favor the Ducks by seven points.

Four more bowl games today
UNDATED (AP) β The college football bowl season is far from over. There are four more games being played today with Pittsburgh facing Houston in the first game, the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas. The other games today feature Iowa and Tennessee playing in the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida; UCLA and Kansas in the Alamo Bowl in San Antonio and Oklahoma State against Washington in the Cactus Bowl in Tempe, Arizona.
TOP 25 MEN’S BASKETBALL-SCHEDULE

UNDATED (AP) β The highest-ranked school in action today in men’s Top-25 basketball is No. 10 Utah. The 10-2 Utes have a home game with the Trojans of Southern California. The other Top-25 game has 21st-ranked Washington, and its 11-1 record, on the road for a game with California.

Warriors to host the Raptors
UNDATED (AP) β Two first-place teams are squaring off in NBA play this evening. In Oakland the Golden State Warriors, leaders of the Pacific Division, are playing host to the Atlantic Division-leading Toronto Raptors. The Warriors enter the game with a record of 25-5 and a 4 Β½-game lead over the Clippers, while the Raptors are 24-8 with an 8 Β½-game lead over the Nets.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are on the road tonight in Charlotte to face the Bobcats. The Cavs got word yesterday that they won’t have the services of LeBron James for approximately two weeks as he gets treatment for a bad back and knee.
The Knicks’ losing streak is now nine straight. This evening on the home court they get a chance to turn things around a bit with a game against the Pistons. Detroit, which is in the midst of an 8-23 season, has a modest three-game winning streak.
The remaining games this evening feature the Nets in Orlando, the Celtics at home to the Mavericks, Houston at New Orleans, the Thunder at home to the Wizards, Indiana at Milwaukee, the 76ers in Phoenix for a game with the Suns, the Hawks in Salt Lake City to meet the Jazz and the Lakers entertaining the Grizzlies.

A look at NHL action
UNDATED (AP) β It’s an eight-game schedule in the NHL this evening. In Buffalo the Sabres, who have lost six of seven, are playing host to the Panthers. Florida has dropped its last two games and tonight’s contest kicks off a six-game road trip for the Panthers.
Montreal is doing well these days. The Canadiens have won their last four games and seven of eight while their opponent tonight, New Jersey, is just 2-6-3 in its last 11 games.
Two of the winningest teams in the league are meeting tonight in Calgary as the Flames play host to the Islanders. New York is tied for the league lead with 25 wins, while the Flames, who have won four straight, have skated off the ice with a win 21 times.
The Hurricanes are having a hard time scoring. They have just five goals in five games as they have dropped three straight. Carolina, which has one win in its last six games, is hosting the Flyers tonight.
The rest of the schedule has Tampa Bay at Pittsburgh, the Wild home to the Maple Leafs, Edmonton at Colorado and St. Louis skating in Anaheim. The Blues have lost their last eight games on the Ducks’ ice.

Judge who put Pete Rose in prison dies
CINCINNATI (AP) β A longtime federal judge in Ohio known for his support of civil rights and for sending Pete Rose to prison has died. S. Arthur Spiegel (SPEE’-guhl) was 94. Spiegel ordered Rose to prison for tax evasion in 1990.
