Hawks, Warriors win again

UNDATED (AP) β€” It was a good night for the NBA’s conference leaders.

The East-leading Atlanta Hawks picked up their 12th consecutive win as Kyle Korver drained a season-high seven 3-pointers on his way to 24 points in a 107-99 victory in Chicago. Al Horford added 22 points and nine rebounds as the Hawks matched the second-longest win streak in franchise history.

Paul Millsap scored 16 points and Jeff Teague had 17 and 11 assists in the Hawks’ 26th victory in 28 games.

West-leading Golden State won for the ninth time in 10 games. Stephen (STEH’-fehn) Curry and Klay Thompson scored 27 points apiece as the Warriors ripped Houston 131-106. Curry scored 15 points while the Warriors turned a five-point, halftime lead into a 22-point edge through three periods.

NBA scoring leader James Harden had just 11 points against the Warriors.

In other NBA action:

β€” Zach Randolph had 20 points and 15 rebounds to lead Memphis to its fourth consecutive win, 102-98 against Portland. Beno Udrih (BAY’-noh OO’-drihk) added 17 points, including two key buckets in the final minute.

β€” Blake Griffin scored 30 points and Matt Barnes added 26 on 10 of 15 shooting as the Los Angeles Clippers topped Sacramento 117-108. J.J. Redick hit four 3-pointers and finished with 18 points to help the Clippers win despite being outrebounded 54-34.

β€” Washington earned a split of its home-and-home with the Nets as Nene (neh-NAY’) scored 20 points in the Wizards’ 99-90 win at Brooklyn. Bradley Beal finished with 17 points, nine rebounds and eight assists for the Wizards, who shot 52 percent from the field.

β€” Gerald Henderson had 20 points and Charlotte outscored Indiana 12-3 in overtime to beat the Pacers 80-71. Lance Stephenson scored 13 points in 21 minutes as the Hornets won without injured Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson.

β€” Detroit made it nine wins in 11 games as Kyle Singler dropped in 20 points on 6 of 8 from 3-point range in a 107-89 romp over Philadelphia. Greg Monroe added 12 points and 13 rebounds to the win.

β€” Minnesota beat Denver 113-105 behind rookie Andrew Wiggins’ season-high 31 points. Wiggins was 11 of 17 from the floor, including four 3-pointers to help the Timberwolves win for the fourth time in 20 road games.

Kentucky, Virginia still perfect…Gonzaga cruises…Duke rebounds

UNDATED (AP) β€” Top-ranked Kentucky and No. 2 Virginia remain the only unbeaten teams in men’s Division I basketball.

Devin Booker scored 13 points and the Wildcats improved to 17-0 by ripping Alabama 70-48. Booker and Tyler Ulis each hit three of the Wildcats’ eight 3-pointers, with Ulis finishing with 11 points.

Kentucky shot 50 percent from the field and was 16 of 18 from the line in its second straight lopsided victory since a double-overtime scare.

The Cavaliers dumped Boston College 66-51 as Malcolm Brogdon scored 20 points. Anthony Gill had 11 points and 10 rebounds for the Cavs, who are 17-0 for the first time since the Ralph Sampson-led team opened 23-0 in 1980-81.

In other top-25 action:

β€” Third-ranked Gonzaga is 18-1 after Gary Bell Jr. scored 17 points and Kevin Pangos added 16 points in a 72-55 triumph at Loyola Marymount. The Bulldogs opened on a 20-2 run and added a 21-8 spurt after the Lions pulled within seven in the second half.

β€” Amile Jefferson led the way with 19 points while Jahlil Okafor (OH’-kuh-for) added 18 as fourth-ranked Duke whipped No. 6 Louisville 63-52. The Blue Devils led by as many as 20 in the second half en route to their first victory in three games.

β€” Daniel Ochefu (oh-SHAY’-foo) had 21 points and 10 rebounds as fifth-ranked Villanova downed Penn 62-47. The Wildcats shot 30 percent in the first half and led by just one before starting a 21-6 run midway through the second half.

β€” Arizona won a battle of top-10 teams as Stanley Johnson scored all 18 of his points in the second half of the 10th-rated Wildcats’ 69-51 rout of No. 8 Utah. T.J. McConnell added 16 points for Arizona, which outrebounded the Utes 40-19.

β€” Naz Long scored 20 points as 11th-ranked Iowa State held off No. 9 Kansas 86-81, giving the Cyclones back-to-back wins over the Jayhawks for the first time in 14 years. Georges Niang (nee-ANG’) had 15 points for the Cyclones who shot 9-for-20 from 3-point range in ending the Jayhawks’ five-game winning streak.

β€” Jerian Grant scored 23 points and 12th-ranked Notre Dame came back from a 12-point deficit in the second half to beat Miami 75-70. The Fighting Irish are 17-2, equaling the school’s best start through 19 games.

β€” No. 13 Wichita State got 18 points apiece from Darius Carter and Ron Baker in a 61-41 win over Evansville. The Shockers are now 16-2 on the season and 6-0 in Missouri Valley play.

β€” Freshman Melo Trimble scored 21 of his 24 points in the first half as 14th-ranked Maryland breezed past Michigan State 75-59 to sweep the season series and move atop the Big Ten.

β€” Cam Ridley scored 19 points and 20th-ranked Texas snapped a two-game skid by slamming No. 16 West Virginia 77-50.

β€” No. 17 VCU is now 15-3 after JeQuan Lewis scored a season-high 16 points in a 70-64 victory over Duquesne.

β€” Buddy Hield scored 27 points on 10-for-10 shooting as No. 18 Oklahoma defeat No. 24 Oklahoma State 82-65.

β€” Stefan Moody had 18 points and Mississippi shot a season-high 56.4 percent in a 96-82 win over No. 19 Arkansas

β€” Nino Williams scored 18 points and Kansas State stormed back from a nine-point, halftime deficit to beat 22nd-rated Baylor 63-61.

β€” Larry Nance Jr. scored 21 points and Josh Adams added 16 to help No. 25 Wyoming survive a triple-overtime thriller against Fresno State, 70-65.

NFL-COLTS-RICHARDSON

Richardson, Nixon among absent Colts

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) β€” Indianapolis running back Trent Richardson didn’t travel to New England for Sunday’s AFC championship game, with the Colts saying only that the move was made because of personal reasons.

Richardson was inactive for Indianapolis’ victory at Denver last week after playing one snap in the playoff opener against Cincinnati.

Acquired from Cleveland for a first-round pick in September 2013, Richardson lost the starting job to Daniel Herron late in the season.

Also, reserve offensive tackle Xavier Nixon missed the team flight Saturday and has been listed as out for the game.

Lightning regain East lead…Ducks break tie with Preds

UNDATED (AP) β€” Just three points separate the top five teams in the NHL’s Eastern Conference. The Tampa Bay Lightning moved back into first by one point over the New York Islanders, with Montreal and Detroit just three points back and one ahead of Pittsburgh.

Ryan Callahan scored a power-play goal and provided the deciding shootout tally in the Lightning’s 3-2 triumph over Colorado. Ben Bishop turned back 40 shots for the Lightning, who led 2-1 until Nathan McKinnon scored with seven seconds left in regulation.

The Islanders ended a four-game winning streak as Tomas Plekanec (pleh-KAH’-nehts) delivered two goals and two assists in Montreal’s 6-4 win over New York. Alex Galchenyuk (gahl-CHEHN’-yuhk), David Desharnais (day-ahr-NAY’) and Plekanec scored third-period goals to put the Canadiens ahead 6-2 with 6:17 remaining.

Detroit ended Nashville’s five-game winning streak by getting two goals from Tomas Tatar (tah-TAHR’) and 34 saves from Petr Mrazek (muh-RA’-zehk) in the Red Wings’ 5-2 win over the Predators. The Predators had earned at least a point in 10 straight games.

Nashville’s loss allowed Anaheim to take a two-point lead in the Western Conference. Jakob Silfverberg scored the lone shootout goal to complete the Ducks’ comeback in a 3-2 win over Los Angeles. Sami Vatanen knotted the score with 7:08 left in regulation before the Ducks knocked off their rivals.

Elsewhere on ice:

β€” St. Louis won for the sixth time in seven games as Brian Elliott stopped 27 shots in the Blues’ 3-0 win over Toronto. Kevin Shattenkirk, Alex Steen and T.J. Oshie (OH’-shee) provided the scoring to support Elliott’s 28th career shutout. The Maple Leafs limp home after scoring just once during an 0-4 road trip.

β€” Dallas coughed up a 3-0 lead before Antoine Roussel (roo-SEHL’) and Jamie Benn scored 16 seconds apart in the third period to carry the Stars past Washington 5-4. Tyler Seguin (SAY’-gihn) and Jason Spezza (SPET’-suh) each had a goal and an assist as the Stars dealt the Capitals their second straight regulation loss since a 14-1-4 stretch.

β€” Matt Calvert scored a pair of third-period goals to lift Columbus past Boston 3-1, ending the Bruins’ five-game winning streak. Ryan Johansen had a goal and an assist in the Blue Jackets’ first victory in five games.

β€” Edmonton beat Florida 3-2 as Matt Hendricks tied it with a short-handed goal in the third period before Nail Yakupov (nyl YAH’-kah-pahv) notched the lone shootout goal. The Oilers won for the first time in four games and snapped a franchise record 14-game, road-losing streak.

β€” Calgary knocked off San Jose 4-3 on Sean Monahan’s goal 24 seconds into overtime. Dennis Wideman, Joe Colborne, Jiri Hudler (HOOD’-lur) also tallied in the Flames’ fourth consecutive road win.

β€” Jason Zucker scored the game-winner and Devan Dubnyk (DOOB’-nihk) stopped 25 shots in Minnesota’s 3-1 verdict over Arizona. The Wild have won two straight since an 0-5-1 skid.

β€” Philadelphia and Buffalo were tied 2-2 in the third period until Chris Valdevelde and Michael Raffl scored 2:45 apart to send the Flyers past the Sabres 4-3.

β€” Justin Faulk and Nathan Gerbe (GUR’-bee) each had a goal and an assist in the third period of Carolina’s 3-2 victory at Ottawa.

Arizona lands Cuban pitcher

PHOENIX (AP) β€” The Arizona Diamondbacks have announced an agreement with 21-year-old Cuban pitching prospect Yoan Lopez. The 6-foot-4 right-hander played three seasons in Cuba’s top league, going 15-13 with a 3.76 ERA. Lopez got an $8.27 million signing bonus, two people with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press earlier in the week.

Last month, Arizona agreed to terms with Cuban third baseman-outfielder Yasmany Tomas on a six-year contract worth $68.5 million.

PGA: SONY OPEN

Walker leads through 54…Appleby says he was beaten and robbed

HONOLULU (AP) β€” Jimmy Walker is the leader through three rounds of the PGA’s Sony Open in Honolulu.

Walker surged to the top with an 8-under 62 that leaves him 16-under for the tournament, two strokes ahead of Matt Kuchar (KOO’-chur).

Brian Harman’s 64 leaves him in a tie for third with Troy Merritt at minus-13.

Meanwhile, Australian golfer Robert Allenby says he was robbed, beaten and dumped in a park after missing the tournament cut on Friday.

Contacted by Australian Associated Press, Allenby said he might have been drugged in the Amuse Wine Bar in Waikiki Beach and taken to an underground garage where he was robbed and thrown into the trunk of a car.

GOLF-ABU DHABI CHAMPIONSHIP

Kaymer has big lead after three

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) β€” Martin Kaymer has the lead at the Abu Dhabi (AH’-boo DAH’-bee) Championship by six shots after three rounds. Seeking a fourth title in eight years in Abu Dhabi, Kaymer shot a 7-under 65 in the third round to extend his overnight lead from one stroke.

World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, is 8 shots off the pace.

BOXING-WILDER

Wilder wins heavyweight crown

LAS VEGAS (AP) β€” Deontay Wilder has become the first American to win a piece of the heavyweight title in nearly a decade, staggering Bermane Stiverne early on his way to a 12-round unanimous decision that kept him unbeaten in 33 fights.

This was the first time Wilder had gone more than four rounds, having won his previous 32 bouts by knockout.

One ringside judge gave Wilder every round, scoring it 120-107. He won 119-108 and 118-109 on the other two.

COLLEGE BASKETBALL-BROADCASTER

CBS suspends broadcaster for solicitation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) β€” Basketball broadcaster Greg Anthony has been suspended by CBS after being arrested for soliciting a prostitute in Washington, D.C. Police says the incident took place in a downtown hotel and that Anthony could face up to 90 days in jail if convicted. He was in town to broadcast the Michigan State at Maryland game Saturday.
