PITTSBURGH (AP) β€” Detroit Tigers pitcher Justin Verlander will likely miss at least one start after leaving Monday night’s game in Pittsburgh in the second inning due to a sore right shoulder. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus says an MRI on Verlander’s shoulder reveals inflammation in several areas but no major structural damage. Verlander gave up five runs in the first inning against the Pirates and came out of the game following a plate appearance the next inning.

BALTIMORE (AP) β€” The Baltimore Orioles are wondering if the left side of their infield will have to go on the disabled list. Third baseman Manny Machado was diagnosed with a strained right knee yesterday after suffering the injury during an at-bat against the Yankees on Monday. Shortstop J.J. Hardy may have to go on the DL because of a sprained thumb suffered in Saturday’s victory over the Cardinals, but manager Buck Showalter wasn’t sure either player would have to be shelved.

BALTIMORE (AP) β€” Major League Baseball could have a new commissioner as soon as tomorrow, when the 30 owners meet in Baltimore to vote on Bud Selig’s (SEE’-lihgz) replacement. Selig says the succession process has worked just the way he thought it would. A seven-man committee whittled down an expansive list to three candidates: MLB Chief Operating Officer Rob Manfred, Boston Red Sox chairman Tom Werner and MLB VP of Business Tim Brosnan.

LOS ANGELES (AP) β€” The sale of the Los Angeles Clippers to former Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer has been consummated. The transaction was completed after a California court confirmed the authority of Shelly Sterling, the estranged wife of Clippers owner Donald Sterling, to make the deal. Ballmer bought the team for $2 billion, a move that has already been approved by NBA owners.

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) β€” Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick has been suspended by the NFL for the first four games of the season after failing a drug test. Scandrick said in a statement released by his agent that he unknowingly took a substance while on vacation in Mexico that led to the positive test.
