CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office will require all personnel, visitors, and inmates to continue wearing masks indoors at all detention centers.
Officials say despite recent recommendations to end indoor mask mandates in North Carolina, MSCO will maintain its mask mandate to protect its staff, residents, and to prevent possible spread.
According to the CDC, congregate settings (including correctional and detention facilities), have an increased risk.
They are characterized by a diverse and varying set of factors that can increase risk and affect exposure to and transmission of COVID-19, according to a news release.
“We must remain vigilant inside our facilities which are at a higher risk than the general population for transmission,” said Sheriff Garry L. McFadden. “We will continue to have respiratory quarantine and respiratory isolation housing units to help mitigate the spread of the virus. I am very proud of and confident in the work of MCSO staff and our healthcare provider Wellpath during this pandemic. We will continue to monitor cases and updates from the CDC and change protocols as needed.”
