CHARLOTTE, NC — Police are investigating a shooting that took place just before ten o’clock Tuesday morning on Matlea Court.
Officials say they responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call around 9:50 am on the 6400 block of Matlea Court. Officers found a woman with a gunshot wound inside her home when they arrived. She was taken by medic to CMC with life threatening injuries.
Investigators believe the woman was shot when burglars kicked in the door of her home during an apparent break in. The suspects then fled the scene. The woman was alone in the home with her infant child at the time, but the child was unharmed.
Police are still investigating the scene, but do not believe the victim and suspects knew one another.
