Life-Saving Developments in Treating Heroin Addiction
CHARLOTTE, NC — New life-saving developments in the way North Carolina treats heroin addiction.
We told you Wednesday night on WCCB News @ Ten about a mother fighting to raise awareness after her son’s overdose death. To read that story, click here.
The North Carolina Harm Reduction Coalition says it has handed out 19,000 Narcan kits to family and friends of addicts. The nose spray helps people survive overdoses.
In the past it was primarily used by paramedics and first responders.
“It’s about saving people’s lives,” said Edward Blevins, a counselor with Anuvia Substance Abuse. “Giving people opportunities to have another chance, at least recognizing the dangers of taking such a strong drug as heroin.” He continued, “The users that administered it had second thoughts about continuing their heroin use, because they actually saw it work.”
