Opponents of Non-Discrimination Ban Rally and Speak out At City Council Meeting
CHARLOTTE, NC– “Once again this City Council and you Mayor have divided this City raised passions andΒ anger, andΒ pitted people of this region against one another,” says Rev. Nate Atwood.
Opponents of the proposed changes to Charlotte’s Non-Discrimination Ordinance were passionate during Monday night’s City Council meeting.
“Blended bathrooms for the sake of less than 1 percent of our population will discriminate against Charlotte,” says Ken Huston.
“White woman identifies as Black…if we’re going to throw out science and DNA who cares? I care! I want my children protected,” says Jeanette Wilson.
Some say their religious freedoms are being violated.
“I don’t think businesses should be forced to go against their conscious, their faith believe word of God,” says Lisa Metzger.
Equipped with umbrellas, ponchos and signs, more than a hundred opponents joined the “Don’t do it Charlotte” rally outside the government center before the public forum.
“It’s not us that will lose today, but it will be the women and men of this city,” says one opponent.
