CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The most active meteor shower of the year peaks tonight.

The Geminids, known for producing upwards of 100 meteors per hour at its climax, will be on full display this Wednesday evening. For the best viewing, look up towards the northeastern sky after midnight. The Geminids get their name due to the shower appearing to emanate from the Gemini constellation.

While it won’t be completely clear tonight for the peak, partly cloudy skies will clear out later in the evening from north to south.

Lows will dip down near freezing overnight, so be sure to bundle up.

Keep in mind that this is the peak of the Geminids shower, which can produce shooting stars up until Christmas Eve.
