ROCK HILL – A man has been arrested and charged with two counts of robbery for allegedly breaking into two businesses.
Officers say they received word that the doors of The Mercantile on 153 East White Street were shattered around 1 a.m. Thursday, December 21st.
Officers say surveillance footage revealed a black man wearing khaki pants, a yellow jacket, and white shoes throwing a brick through the glass to enter the business, according to a news release.
Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the suspect.
Later in the morning around 5:30 a.m., Officers responded to an additional break-in at the Two Scoops ice cream shop on 161 West Main Street. Upon arrival, officers found the front door shattered.
Another review of surveillance cameras revealed a similar looking suspect except the jacket was changed, police say.
Officers searched the area but, again, did not locate the suspect.
Throughout the day, officers conducted a search of the downtown area. According to a news release, an officer noticed a male who fit the description of the suspect on East Main Street. A field interview was conducted with the male as the investigation continued. It was determined, shortly after that the male was the suspect in the burglaries.
Robert Jones Jr., 66 of Rock Hill, was arrested and charged with two counts of Burglary, one for each business.
