Swimmer Cammile Adams Training Toward Olympic Goals
CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) –Cammile Adams got a taste of the Olympics in 2012.
A fifth place finish in the 200-meter butterfly in London only made her hungrier to put her best foot forward for the 2016 games in Rio next month.
And that’s what brought Adams to the Queen City.
Eighteen months ago Adams moved her life to Charlotte to be closer with her SwimMAC Carolina Team Elite squad and to step up her training out of the water.
“One of my big goals this quad was to get stronger,” Adams said.
Adams does her land-based training at Performance Unlimited in South Charlotte under the watchful eye of her Performance Coach, Jeremy Boone.
“So when I hear things like, I am the strongest I have ever been. I feel as good as I have ever felt. Those are things we want mentally that she can take and build confidence into this weekend,” Boone said of Adams.
Adams best chance at making the Olympic team will be in the 200-meter butterfly–the same event she qualified for Team USA in 2012. Ahead of the trials, Adams said she’s not as nervous as she was four-years ago.
The goal this time around is much bigger than this week’s trials. It’s about conquering the competition and standing on the podium as a gold medalist in the Olympic games.
“That’s definitely been where our goals have been, so I am excited,” Adams said.
