Ragan’s Daytona Scheme Sketched by Shriner Patient
CHARLOTTE, NC (WCCB Charlotte) — David Ragan will drive with a little extra motivation on his hood.
The paint scheme for the No. 23 BK Racing Toyota was designed by 16 year old Hailey Randall–a patient at Shriners Hospitals for Children — Twin Cities in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Randall won the Healing Power of Love design contest that was open to all 22 Shriners Hospitals for Children locations.
Randall was on hand to unveil the design at the NASCAR Hall of Fame Tuesday morning.
“I have always wanted a car on the race track to incorporate Hailey (Randall) and some of the patients to go in and design the car,” Ragan, a member of the Shriners International fraternity since 2012, said. “Then to see the final product take the green flag on Saturday is going to be a lot of fun.”
Ragan has a goal to visit all 22-Shriner Hospital locations. Shriners Hospitals provides medical treatment regardless of the families’ ability to pay.
“This is a project that the Shriners Hospitals for Children have been working on for a long time,” Ragan said. “They come to the rescue for a lot of kids who need their help. They really make a positive impact on a lot of families.”
Ragan is hoping to create awareness for the organization on Saturday night when he races in the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. Ragan won the July race at Daytona back in 2011.
