Panthers Philly Brown muscles up for third year in NFL

SPARTANBURG, SC (WCCB Charlotte) — Philly Brown is no longer the little guy.

The Panthers third year wide receiver has added 20-pounds of muscle in the off-season. The motivation behind the weight gain was two-fold: to help rehab a shoulder he had surgery in May on and to prevent future injuries.

“I might have got one vacation,” Brown said on his commitment to working out with team trainer Ryan Vermillion. “Every (other) day I was here rehabbing on my shoulder. I would lift, meal plan.”

Brown has missed time in each of his first two seasons due to injury–missing two games last season. The third year wide-out improved on his 2014 numbers across the board as he caught 31-passes for 447 yards and four touchdowns.

Brown acknowledged that his first goal is to make the team. But after that, its about working to get the No. 1 scoring offense (31.2 ppg in 2015) even better than it was last year.

“We’re trying to learn the offense like we don’t know it–start from scratch,” Brown said. “We need to take care of the little things because that’s what got us beat in the Super Bowl. Focus on the little things and go back to basics. Hopefully from there we can drive past from where we were last year on offense.”

The Panthers first practice is being held Thursday night at Wofford College.
