CHARLOTTE, N.C. – A dog was fatally shot and three people were arrested during a search warrant investigation on Thursday.
Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department located a carjacking suspect with several felony warrants outside of his home shortly before 7 pm on Sharyn Drive near Governor James G Martin Freeway.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Kyle Kollermeier, retreated inside the home when officers attempted to approach him.
An officer knocked on the door of the home and began speaking with another person in the home when a dog who officers say displayed aggressive behavior escaped from the home and charged at one of the officer.
According to a news release, the officer attempted to push the dog away multiple times before drawing his firearm and fatally striking the dog.
The officer was not bitten in the incident, police say.
Shortly after, officers say Kollermeier refused to exit the home, prompting them to begin protocols for a barricaded suspect. A search warrant was obtained to enter the home shortly before 10 p.m.
Upon serving the search warrant, officers arrested Kollermeier and an additional man and woman with active warrants.
The suspects’ names and charges are listed below:
