Heat & Humidity Heighten Into Workweek
A few showers and storms roll through our Sunday afternoon, but it won't be a washout.
We’ve made it to June! At 51º, this morning was our coldest start to a June day in five years. Despite the morning chill, temperatures have recovered quickly into the 70s and 80s for most across the WCCB Charlotte viewing area. It only gets hotter from here – and the humidity also ramps up. Expect highs to top out near 80º again on Sunday, but scattered showers and storms will cut temperatures down before they get any warmer. No severe weather is in the forecast, but a few isolated storms may bring heavy rain, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. A few stray showers may roll into the evening, but most communities dry out overnight as lows dip into the 50s and 60s to close out the weekend.
A classic summertime pattern sets up shop as we move into the workweek. Highs will soar into the upper 80s across the Piedmont and Foothills as scattered showers and storms pop up in the afternoons ahead. Dew points will rise back into the 60s, making things sticky for people outside during the day. Medium-range models suggest a rainmaking system slides through the Carolinas towards the end of the workweek, which may bump up storm chances a bit. Next weekend remains warm, but is trending drier.
