Affidavit: Teens Went To Party And Then Drove Around Charlotte To Shoot At People

The Latest:

The 18-year-old accused in a Charlotte shooting spree will remain behind bars after a judge didn’t issue a bond on his first degree murder charge.

A superior court judge will have to weigh in on Carlos Roberto-Diaz’s bond. A district court judge made the ruling Friday during Roberto-Diaz’s first court appearance following the shooting spree that killed Mustaffa Muhammad and injured several others.

Roberto-Diaz was issued bonds for two other charges and both were set at $100,000 secured. Roberto-Diaz’s next court date is set for July 31st.

A 16-year-old was also arrested for the shootings that happened across parts of Charlotte on July 9th.

An affidavit states Roberto-Diaz and a 16-year-old went to a party and then drove around the city shooting at people in the Beattie’s Ford Road/Lasalle Street area and the South Boulevard area.

Police do not believe these shootings were gang related. CMPD does say they believe the 16-year-old did have plans to continue the shooting spree.

Police were able to conduct a traffic stop after they located a black 2011 Honda Accord that fit the description of the vehicle involved in several of the shootings. The driver, a 16-year-old, was taken into custody.

Police say he was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a handgun by a minor, and possession of a stolen firearm. He is now expected to face additional murder and attempted murder charges due to the shootings.

Crime lab investigators say forensics determined the shootings were connected to the teen who was arrested.

After further investigation, a second suspect was identified. Police say 18-year-old Carlos Roberto-Diaz was arrested by VCAT on July 11th.

He has been charged with first degree murder, conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder, five counts of attempted first degree murder, two counts of shooting into an occupied vehicle, two counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.

The juvenile has been charged with 1st degree murder but police believe they will face additional charges in the coming days.
