Deputies Seize Over 100 Grams Of Fentanyl After Car Chase In Chester County

CHESTER, S.C. – Deputies seized 112 grams of fentanyl, equivalent to nearly 56,000 deadly doses, following a car chase in Chester County on Thursday morning, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 6:30 a.m, deputies made a traffic stop on a white truck near J A Cochran Bypass and Columbia Road in Chester. The driver, Eric Bernard Jones, was operating the vehicle on a suspended license.

After being asked to exit the vehicle, deputies said Jones fled from the traffic stop and a pursuit began.

The pursuit ended on Ashford Road after Jones hit a ditch and wrecked the vehicle. He was arrested at the scene.

Deputies say they found 112 grams of fentanyl, 56 grams of methamphetamine, and $4,373 in cash during a search of the vehicle. They also found pills believed to be controlled substances.

“Considering that 2 milligrams of Fentanyl equates to a potential deadly dose, the amount of fentanyl seized during this traffic stop today is estimated to be the equivalent of nearly 56,000 deadly doses,” Sheriff Max Dorsey said. “In other words, the amount of fentanyl seized by Sheriff’s Deputies this morning could have been a fatal dose for nearly twice the number of citizens in Chester County.”

“This is not just statistics; it’s about the lives of families, friends, and neighbors that we are working tirelessly to protect from this deadly threat.”

Jones sustained injuries from the crash and was treated at the hospital. After being released, he was taken to the Chester County Detention Center.

Jones was charged with the following:

  • Driving Under Suspension, 3rd or subsequent offense
  • Failure to Stop for Blue Lights
  • Trafficking in Fentanyl, 28 grams or more
  • Trafficking in Methamphetamine, 28 grams or more
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I-III
